Monday June 8

It's been surprisingly busy today at your local florist! It is so hard to guess how many flowers to buy each morning, especially on a Monday. And I didn't buy enough pink flowers & baby's breath today! We made a pretty little casket spray today with a sweet doll on a pillow in it. We'll do any kind of special request when our customers ask.
Meranda plucked and pruned & deadheaded half the day today on the perennials & shrubs.
Did you know that a greenhouse full of plants stays cooler than an empty greenhouse? Maybe that works for houses that have lots of landscaping around them compared to houses with no plants. Another good reason to landscape!!! Of course, we've known for years that a tree carefully situated southwest of your house will shade it & therefore cool it.
And our humor for the day comes from Barb & her hummingbird named Fred who comes back to feed at her house every summer and who doesn't play well with others. And also Keith, who is always a pleasure to visit with on Mondays with his tales of his latest artistic venture or of stealing tables from his dad!!

Saturday at Ravenna Greenhouse

Saturday was a typical day in June for us at the flower shop & greenhouse. We delivered our usual standing order to the Irvine Christian Church, fixed a dozen red roses for a granny's birthday, arranged 12 pink roses for a recovering from surgery daughter, sent decorations to Cedar Village Restaurant for an Estill County High School Class of 19?? Reunion, and then toward the end of the day we assisted a family with choosing flowers to honor their loved one who just passed away. Throughout the day we did manage to work in watering everything in the greenhouse, including our brand new mum plants we are growing for the fall season. This is the first time Meranda & I have done this. We made some changes to the greenhouse so that it is cooler than usual in there. We are also growing perennials from seed for next spring. So we have two new projects to work on, as well as our plants we still have from spring . We still have lots of day lilies & hostas and blooming shrubs.
Oh, and I dressed the window for the fourth of July!
